Dlamini-Zuma to oppose the opening of beaches

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) will oppose an application to declare the closure of South African beaches unconstitutional.

The application will be heard in the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday.

According to Dlamini-Zuma’s answering statement, the application is opposed because “the government has a legal duty to protect all South Africans from the Covid-19 pandemic and to save lives”.

“This state must also protect South Africans from the effects of the virus on the human body.”

The application is brought against Dlamini-Zuma, dr. Zweli Mkhize, Minister of Health, and Alan Winde, Premier of the Western Cape.
