The National Council of Provinces heard this week that the suspended municipal manager of the Metsimaholo Municipality (Sasolburg, Deneysville, and Oranjeville), Steve Molala, has been sitting at home for more than two years with full pay and all fringe benefits.
He was suspended after being accused of looting.
However, he is still being compensated and has not yet been charged with anything.
Mariëtte Pittaway, DA legislator in the Free State, who this week attended the meeting in the Fourth Council Chamber of the Free State legislature where the management members of the municipality had to appear, says that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the collection of service fees here as with all other Free State municipalities also decreased dramatically.
Metsimaholo was one of four Free State municipalities that are or should be placed under administration.
