Cyril Ramaphosa says Monday’s confrontation between parents and EFF members outside Brackenfell High School in Cape Town’s northern suburbs was a “spectacle”.
Ramaphosa says in a statement issued Tuesday morning, what happened at the school brings back sad memories of the past that no one wants to go through again.
He believes that the focus should actually now be on matriculants’ final exams that are written in “unprecedented circumstances”.
“This is a very difficult time, not only for matriculants at Brackenfell High School but also for matriculants in the country. The spectacle of parents and protesters fighting outside the school gate is very disappointing, ”said Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa says allegations of racism against the school should be investigated. He also appealed to all involved to act with restraint and responsibility.
“We must not allow the incident at Brackenfell High School to be used for racial polarization.”
