South Africans can now gamble, go to the movies but may not go to church

For the next two weeks, you may go gambling, go to the movies, visit a library, and eat out, but you may not go to church.

This is what dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, said at a government media conference on Tuesday where the amended Level 3 regulations to curb the Covid-19 pandemic were explained.

As with funerals, there may not be more than 50 people in movie theaters, libraries, gambling venues, and restaurants. If the space is too small for 50, the number of people should be halved according to the capacity.

And everyone has to sit 1.5 m apart and wear masks.

Police Minister Bheki Cele said that the police would not hesitate to intervene at funerals at the same media conference if there are too many people or it takes longer than two hours.

Because hospitals are reaching their full capacity and funeral homes are also under pressure, it is recommended that people be buried within five days of their deaths, says Dlamini-Zuma.

The government will review the measures by January 15.
