On Thursday, the 08th of October 2020, a male was sentenced for murder in the Northern Cape High Court.
This came after Elvis Malebo cruelly killed Evelyn Mocumi, 27, when he attacked her with a panga and with a knife stabbing her 34 times.
The occurrence happened on the 14th of June 2020 at about 07:30 when the involved found Mocumi with a 33-year-old male.
Malebo proceeded to his house to retrieve the weapons and threatened the male with the panga. The male left the scene, and the accused killed Mocumi.
He was detained by Hartswater SAPS moments later and waited in custody up until his sentencing.
He pleaded guilty and got 25 years for the murder and 12 months for assault on the male. The sentences will run concurrently.
Major General Phiwe Mnguni, the Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, praised the investigation officer, Sgt Abraham Mokae, for a job accurately done.
The Provincial Commissioner also condemned the event and reemphasized that the sentence would send out a message to all who think committing such crimes.
