The award-winning movie Poppie Nongena is available on BoxOffice on DStv from Sunday.
The movie was released nationwide on January 31. Although it received outstanding reviews, it earned just over R1 million at the box office.
“It was a challenge to get people into movie theaters,” says Helena Spring, the producer.
“But everyone who saw it was excited about it. At the same time, the performance at the Toyota US Woordfees in Stellenbosch was so popular that we had to find a bigger venue and present another show. ”
Earlier this year, Mosimane won a Safta award as best actress.
With Joubert’s death, Mosimane paid tribute to her.
“We honor this iconic woman, who had the courage to tell the story of Poppie Nongena. She will live on in our hearts. ”
The book and movie are based on Eunice Ntsatha’s life.
She was Joubert’s homemaker.
Earlier this year, Mosimane said she saluted Joubert.
“The book has opened many people’s eyes. And to write down your homemaker’s story. . . who does this? I received a copy of The Stray Years of Poppie Nongena which she signed for me. It’s precious. ”
