According to experts, this year’s Nobel Peace Prize could go to green campaigner Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future movement to highlight the link between environmental damage and the threat to peace and security.

The winner of the $1 million prize will be chosen on October 9 from 318 candidates.

Three Norwegian lawmakers and two Swedish parliamentarians have nominated the 17-year-old Swede

Asle Sveen, a historian, and author of several books on the award says Thunberg will be a strong candidate for this year’s award, her second nomination in two years, with the fires on America’s west coast and rising temperatures in the Arctic.

“Not a single person has done more than she did to make the world focus on climate change,” Sveen told Reuters.

SA Updates previously reported that America’s president, Donald Trump was also nominated for the peace prize.

A Norwegian member of parliament has nominated Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for 2021.

According to him, this is because Trump helped mediate a peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
